Old Spice:
This is the Old Spice commercial. The reason it exploits insecurities is because throughout the whole commercial, it is showing this "perfect man" who is able to please the woman in any possible way. Buying her tickets to the thing she likes, or being the knight in shining armor on a white horse, on a beach. The effect on the audience is that they would want to buy it. If not the men, then the women. I do think it is a pretty effective commercial. It adds a bit of humour as well so people don't even mind seeing it over and over again.
Axe:The advertisment for Axe, whether it be for shampoo, deoderant, or hair gel, it is there to exploit the insecurities of the men watching. Since in most of the commercials for axe, the guy starts out unattractive to women, but when he uses the product, he instantly becomes the most attractive man on the planet. Since ordinary men would like that sort of attention most likely, then they are going to want to buy the product. That is what the ad does. Men don't want to smell, and they do want the attention of women, so what better way to do that then buy Axe. It is somewhat effective. Since the commercials are obviously very unrealistic, I don't know how much men fall for that. But then on the other hand, I've seen many guys using Axe.
Female Insecurities
Cover Girl: Even though sometimes I've heard that cover girl has good intentions, it is still clearly exploiting female insecurities about skin. The girl on the cover has a perfect complection and perfect lips and perfect everything. The make up helped make her so good looking. This advertisement would make women try and get their skins to look so well. They would also want to buy the lipgloss since that is obviously what made her look that good. Therefore the ad would be considered effective since women would want to buy this product.
Fair Skin Ad:Although I don't know what the name of the product is, it is promoting something that can make your skin lighter. This product is sold in Asia as far as I've seen, since they think that fairer skin is better. This advertisment is showing that there is a mask of dark skin that you are wearing, and that under that there is a perfect fair skin that can get you anything and the only way to get that lighter perfect skin is to buy the product. I personally don't really know if this advertisment is effective since I have not seen anyone who bought this product, but in Asia, it probably is fairly popular, since that is what the women over there want.
